Some background About Me
Heyup!! My name’s Melissa I was born and raised in Doncaster, South Yorkshire and I’m 33 years of age. I live in a village in Derbyshire with my husband Luke and long time furry friend Loki.
I love gardening, having a drink with loved ones, laughing so hard that I’m close to peeing myself, watching every horror film under the sun, listening to crime podcasts, going to gigs & screaming every word till I lose my voice, travelling the globe and, of course, taking pics and videos where ever I go.
Photography has been a passion of mine ever since I was a little spriglet. My mum would sigh in despair when she realised I had a hold of the camera on our family holidays, getting the film developed to see photo after photo of water, landscapes or an interesting looking rock but I loved seeing those photos. How incredible that you could be anywhere in the world and end up with a literal hard copy of that memory in your hands?!
At 19 I moved to Sheffield and attended Hallam University where I studied photography for 3 years, the history, the legends, the art, the technical skills and the influence and conversation that can be sparked by a photograph. While in Sheffield I worked part time as a photography assistant in a photo studio and it was here I discovered the joy of shooting weddings.
So long and short it’s something I’m completely in love with and I will continuously strive to learn more and develop my skills- no pun intended.
About me on your wedding day
My style is primarily candid, natural shots. It’s your wedding day and not a photo shoot.
The photos you will look back on and frame are the ones of you hugging a loved one, drunk dancing with your friends, sharing a private glance or sneaky kiss with your other half. Not the ones of your guests stood in a crowd shouting cheese. Group shots have their place at weddings do not get me wrong but your wedding day will go by in a blink, you really don’t want to be spending a big chunk of that standing about while different sized groups assemble and someone goes hunting for your second cousin removed who you met one time when you was 3.
I will of course swoop you away for some couples photos as this is a great time for you to get a breather and soak in what you have actually just done together, because god damn, it’s a big deal!! Couples photos can seem daunting but it will come natural, my style is to let you guys interact with each other as if I wasn't there but do not worry I will add direction and input if needed- of course by this point you probably won’t need it after spending the whole day being the main focal point.
Ultimately I want to be as unnoticed as viably possible. If I pick up on anyone being unnerved by the camera I’ll bet you I can get a laugh out of them. In the end I want you to look through your gallery and see your wedding day as it honestly was, yes it will be through my eyes, but just call me the photo taking story teller.
FAQ’s
HOW MANY IMAGES DO YOU GET?
This is completely dependent on your day and how long I am there for.
If you have a lot of activities throughout the day or maybe your wedding is split over venues or you have a lot of guests these are all factors that can contribute to the final number. It is also dependent on which package you select so I have provided a ball park figure on each option under the pricing tab.
HOW DO YOU EDIT?
All editing is done entirely by me I do not outsource this, I use adobe lightroom and photoshop. To get an idea of my editing style please do take the time to look through my gallery here. I will edit photos in a mix of colour and black and white based on each individual photo and what I feel enhances the moment. Please be advised that if you send me other photographers work and ask me to replicate their style- I simply will not do this and would advise enquiring with that individual.
TYPE OF IMAGES
The majority of my photos are naturally captured moments with a sprinkling of group shots and of course couples that are combination of natural interaction and posed images- guests will also ask me to grab photos of them throughout the day which I’m always happy to do and encourage.
When my friends ask how it feels to photograph a wedding I say it’s like being an accepted creep, I watch people and capture their interactions, their emotions and moments while moving around the venue as elusively as possible. Ultimately its a form of story telling and relaying the day back so if I can provide you with a gallery that feels like I have truly captured your day I will be over the moon!
I love taking photos of all the little details down to the perfume or cologne bottle of the scent you have chosen to wear. All these details equate to month’s if not years of choices made together or for each other. Every part of your day will have been a well considered, researched & pintrested thought and I want to make sure I get every bit on camera for you to look back on.
Couples portraits are very much based on you and we can discuss this before the day. Are you lovey dovey or are you quite camera shy on the PDA front? Do you want to separate from the wedding party for a good chunk of time to be alone or do you want a quick breather before getting stuck back into the madness? If you have never been in front of the camera as a couple then do not fear as my full day package comes with a complimentary pre shoot- if you’re not having me for the whole day then you can also book the pre shoot separate.
WHAT IS THE TURN AROUND FOR IMAGES?
Turn around usually takes 6-8 weeks but during peak wedding season it could be up to 10 weeks. If there are likely to be delays I will of course let you know but I always strive to hit deadlines. I aim to get a sneak peak gallery with a select few images sent to you within the first week of your wedding.
HOW DO WE RECEIVE OUR PHOTOS?
All packages are supplied in an online Pic Time gallery. Both the full day and half day include a USB stick and 5 prints. If you are choosing the hour by hour package and want a USB and prints this is an optional add on at £40.00.
WHAT USAGE DO WE HAVE?
I retain the copyright on the images, you have full usage. You can print, share, do whatever you like with them. My only request is that if sending to a magazine, supplier, blog or newspaper they credit me as photographer.
ON THE DAY
If you have booked a full day package I will turn up to the location requested 2-3 hours prior to the ceremony and I will leave 30 minutes after the first dance. If you have booked a half day or hour by hour we will arrange and discuss start and end times based your needs.
PRE COMMUNICATION
Upon initial enquiry, if I’m available on your date, I will email some questions for further information about your wedding day and arrange a video call to chat and answer any questions you may have. Once we have had a chat, I will reserve your date for 7 days to allow you time to look around at other suppliers work before making a decision. If you wish to go ahead I will send you a contract and payment information for the deposit. Once I have the signed contract and initial £150 deposit you will receive a confirmation and the date is all yours!! If you have a pre wedding shoot included in your package then please remember to get this booked in with me sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.
Four weeks before your wedding I will send an online checklist form to double check all the details I have for you as things can change between booking and the wedding date.
FOOD AND DRINK
Please do not worry about paying for a supplier meal I have some pesky dietary requirements so I’m more than happy to bring a pack up.
PAYMENT AND BOOKING FEE
Booking fee is £150.00 and is non-refundable.
Full payment is due 4 weeks before the wedding day- I will send a reminder along with the checklist if full payment has not been received by then.
GROUP SHOTS AND ITINERARY
My advice would be to think very carefully before supplying a list of varying group shots. Every different group shot takes time out of your day so please do consider how many you want and which people you would like to have them with. When I reach out 3-4 weeks before your wedding please ensure that you provide me with a group shot list and itinerary on the checklist I give you in the weeks before your wedding. Failure to complete this may result in missed group shots that on reflection after the day you may have wished to have.
MY COMMUNICATION
I always aim to work to my 8 weeks deadline but on the rare occasion this looks to be going over due to a busy wedding schedule I will communicate this with you. I will always reply to emails (remember to double check your junk mail). And the times I am taking a break and going on holiday I will again communicate this with you.
SOCIAL MEDIA
I may use some of my images of your wedding day on my social media platforms because of this I do ask that you please inform me prior to the day of any people who cannot have their photo posted online for their own protection & safety on your pre wedding checklist.
